Welcome to Troop 555, The Triple Nickel!

Troop 555 was established in September of 2012. It was the vision of a group of scouts who were looking for a more challenging scouting experience than they were getting. They wanted a truly boy-led troop with a focus on service, scout skills, backpacking and adventure. The adults in the troop see their roles as mentors, counselors and facilitators, helping the scouts to plan activities and advance in rank. As a troop, we encourage both scouts and adults to take advantage of the many training opportunities available in scouting.

Troop 555 meets most Sundays from 6:00pm until 7:30pm at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1452 W. Southlake Blvd, Southlake, TX 76092 (directly across from Carroll Senior High School). We usually don't hold meetings on the weekends we have campouts. Please refer to the Upcoming Events list to the right if you are interested in specific meeting dates or troop activities.

We had some changes to the calendar recently. Our Visiting Webelos are planning to come on Sunday Dec 11 instead of the this Sunday, the 4th.

Look forward to seeing everyone!

2023 Troop Recharter Fees Due Now

Posted on Nov 28 2022 - 3:36pm

Recharter has begun for 2023.  BSA is increasing its membership fees, but Longhorn Council has decreased the insurance cost to offset this increase.  Our annual Troop Dues for Scouts will remain at $175 for the year.  We will include Scouting Life magazine for Scouts,  Scouts dues cover BSA membership fees of $75, $12 to Longhorn Council for insurance, $15 for Scouting Life magazine, and $73 to the troop.

Troop Adults MUST Renew YPT by December 1st

Posted on Nov 21 2022 - 9:05am

All registered adults in Troop 555 MUST retake their Youth Protection Training (YPT) by December 1st.   Last year, BSA mandated that all volunteers complete YPT in conjunction with a unit charter renewal for the following year.  That means that if any registered adult has a YPT certificate that will expire during 2023, he/she must renew their YPT in order to continue their registration as part of the unit's recharter.  Any registered adult who has not completed a YPT course during the 2022 calendar year will need to do so prior to their charter renewal. Basically, under this new policy all adults will be required to retake the YPT course each year because your YPT will expire before the expiration of the next recharter year.

Last Call for Brazos Valley Merit Badge College on January 14 and 28

Posted on Nov 15 2022 - 5:30pm
Registration Open for Brazos Valley Merit Badge College
Registration is now open for the Brazos Valley Merit Badge College to be held on January 14 and 28, 2023.  Scouts MUST attend both days.  This is one of the largest merit badge colleges in our council.  Below is information about the BVMBC.  Attached is a sign up worksheet.  Please read through the offerings for each of the three session times.  Please NOTE that some merit badges have minimum rank requirements and that some courses take up two sessions.
I need each scout to provide three (3) choices for each session via email to LaRue Corbin.  We will try to get scouts in their first choice, but some classes fill quickly.  The sooner you respond to this email, the better!  Remember if a scout directly responds to this email, he MUST copy another adult (parent or troop leader) on that email.
The cost is $30 per scout.  Payments can be made online via our website or you can use funds in your scout's Scout Account (if there are any).  All scouts must send LaRue Corbin an email with their options in order to register for the BVMBC.  You must send the registration email and make a payment to the troop in order to register.
The troop is required to provide adult volunteers in order to attend.  We already have a couple of adults who will help teach merit badges.  Any other adults who want to go will need to register as helpers.

2022 Wreath Sales Have Started

Posted on Nov 15 2022 - 5:21pm

Below is the information about this year's wreath sale.  The troop is registered to participate in the Gift It Forward program only, which means all orders are made online.  This is what we have done in the past 2 years since COVID and it has worked well.  The promotional flyer is attached.  When you promote wreath sales to family and friends, be sure to include the troop's unique coupon code (TR555TX001) and your scout's name as referring member.  Your scout will receive $8 for each item purchased using this information.  Please get with Ms. LaRue if you have questions.
